Wildlife

The Somerset Levels are renowned for the diversity and beauty of their wildlife. There are numerous nature reserves in the Levels which have protected and attracted scarce species of birds such as the Cranes, Bitterns and Great White Egrets. One such reserve, RSPB Swell Wood, is right on the doorstep of the church, and is well-known for its large heronry where many Grey Herons nest in early March.

To celebrate the wonders of our local wildlife we held an Exhibition of Photographs by local photographers in the Stable Cafe and Church Hall in the first week of March 2019. Each day from 10.00am to 5.00pm The Stable Community Coffee Shop served real coffee, delicious cakes and paninis.

Local photographers were invited to submit up to three prints of wildlife in Somerset and over 300 people turned up to see the excellent work of 12 photographers.

Fivehead Minister Laurie Burn is a very keen bird photographer, so if you’re interested in getting involved, or want to know more you can email Laurie.
